DLFNE’s "Glow & Tell" Pecha Kucha

Last Thursday, more than 50 DLFNE members and guests got together for “Glow and Tell.”  As everyone arrived, there were hors d’oeuvres and tabletop displays from some of the corporate members.  The main event of the evening was a “Pecha Kucha” presentation featuring twelve speakers.  If you’re like me, and had never heard of “Pecha Kucha” before, it turns out to be a fun way for designers to meet and a fast-paced way to show their work.  Each speaker had ten slides and a max of 20 seconds per slide to describe them, so each presentation was short and sweet.  The speakers included Lucy Dearborn from Lucia Lighting, Jeff Landes from Omnilite, John Gearhart from Osram Sylvania, Bill Hurwitz from Lutron, Ruth Parr from Ilex Architectural Lighting, Ian Coll from Relfex Lighting, Ted Farnham from Boston Light Source, Carlos Alonso-Niemeyer from NStar, Jamie Sorensen from Philips Color Kinetics, Carrie Hawley from HLB Lighting Design, Dennis Tetrault from Philips Lightolier, and Light Positive’s own Nancy Goldstein.  Nancy talked about our recent name change, and gave a slideshow detailing the evolution of our lighting design firm with representative images from our practice areas.

After the presentation, there was time for dinner, and a chance to mingle and talk about what we saw. At the end of the night, everyone I spoke to said that they had fun, and that the DLFNE should do another “Pecha Kucha” in the future.  So, stay tuned to www.dlf-ne.org for updates on that, as well as the other great events sponsored by this organization!
